Detail of top of chest showing dolphin mouth handhold in the centre front and nativity scene on top face with the Holy Babe in centre, adoring Magi left and Virgin Mary right.
The base of the chest is lead lined and lid held with chains and hinges. The inside has not been restored or altered in any way by the present owner. The pic below shows one of the corner lions and the lion head ring holders which are at each end for lifting.
